Well, welcome to my blog. Although since no one has the address yet, I am sure I am the only one reading it. I've just spent the past two hours trying to decide on a name for my blog. The list was endless. In fact, the ones I was really excited about were already taken. Of course, that is usually my luck. And being that I am late to the blogging community, I guess you get what you get and you don't throw a fit.
Anyway, as I sat here trying to decide on a name, I kept reading articles about how important a name is when it comes to blogs. A name is what will bring people to my blog. Luckily, I have a friend who came over and helped put me out of my misery. We decided on "The Scribblers Pad."
I got to thinking about names of things. When you're writing a novel, a name can either make or break a story. The name is not only how we will address the character, but his name will give us more information about a character. If you have a strong main character who has a whimpy name, people will not enjoy reading about this characters trials or story.
A name of a character often provokes a certain appearance. I was reading an article on the recent decision of an actress to play Katniss from Suzanne Collins "Hunger Games." When the decision was made, there was instant criticisim. People thought she was too old, people thought she wasn't blonde and etc. But the director stood by his decision.
Anyway, I guess this has given me something to think about when deciding on the name of my characters in my writing. Thanks for reading my scribblers pad.
